Stella McCartney celebrates her win with Salma Hayek

Huge congratulations to Stella McCartney who won two gongs at the British Fashion Awards last night including designer of the year…

Judging by her stunning sartorial creations and Olympic ambitions, it comes as no surprise really…

In her acceptance speech, Stella mentioned an ‘anonymous’ CEO who told her she would never make it on her own: ‘He said to me: “Stella, you will live to regret this. You will fail, and I offer to you to stay here in Paris and start your brand with us.”

‘I was really grateful for his offer, but I stuck to my instincts and told him that I still wanted to go.

‘As I left he said in a French accent “You need to learn. There has never in history of fashion been a British fashion house with a woman’s name on the label that has ever been truly global.”

‘So I guess I have to thank him – Mr Anonymous. I will never forget the way that I felt when I left his office. I could not have felt more determined to prove him wrong.

See what happens when you work hard, people?!

Natalia Vodianova: She models. She runs (half) marathons. She has many children. She is super.

Definition of injustice: Russian supermodel Natalia Vodianova, aged 30, mother to three children and one of the most sought-after runway stars in the industry, can run a half marathon (that’s 13.1 miles, people) without a stroke of training.

That's AFTER running 13.1 miles, people

A truly super model: Still smiling after 13.1 miles

That distance would have us panting like an asthmatic warthog before collapsing into a heap on the tarmac.

Not Natalia. She finished the gruelling race, which she ran to raise money for her charity, The Naked Heart Foundation (oh yes, didn’t we say? She’s a humanitarian too, calling charity work ‘addictive’) looking as fresh as we would starting. Wait a minute, make that fresher… she is a super, after all. Then while most would be loafing around in bed the next day tending to bruised toenails, Natalia donned a pair of stilettos and took to the catwalk to walk for her pal Stella McCartney at Paris fashion week.

So not only is she stick thin, beautiful and some sort of philanthropic Earth Mother, but she has endless stamina. Gah! No fair. She wrote on her Facebook page: ‘The Half Marathon was incredibly challenging. Since I have not trained at all. And when I say at all I mean I have not run even 50 meters all year since the last Half Marathon.

What’s the secret? Answers on a postcard please (‘good genes’ not accepted).

Livia Firth: Wearing green Giorgio Armani for Golden Globes

Livia and Colin Firth on the red carpet at the Oscar's 2011

Green Livvy with her Mr Darcy

Oh, to have the world’s top designers to cater for your every whim… Each awards season, Livia Firth, film producer and very beautiful wife of Mr Darcy Colin, sets a challenge for top talent to come up with an eco-friendly dress for her to wear.

Last year, she chose a pink upcycled gown by Gary Harvey, which was made from 11 different gowns reclaimed from the era of the King’s Speech – and wore it to the Oscar’s ceremony where Colin picked up Best Actor gong for the same film. Neat, right? This year the likes of Tom Ford, Gucci, Paul Smith and Stella McCartney have signed up to design dresses either for Livia or for a different celeb – all will be revealed on the eve of the events.

We do know however, that Livia has chosen an eco-friendly Giorgio Armani frock to wear on the red carpet for the Golden Globes this Sunday. Will it be green? You’ll have to wait and see…

PS Come back to Fashionfreude.com on Monday to see which Golden Globes stars we give the best dressed awards to… and which ones get a big old razzie.

Big brands at Little Liberty

Ff doesn’t need any more reasons to go to Liberty.. but nonetheless there’s about to be another one: Little Liberty – an entire floor dedicated to children’s clothes, toys, home accessories and books. Liberty say the store space, coming March 1 2012, will have a ‘crafty, organic and quirky feel’, with a hand-drawn motif of a giant tree spreading out over walls and furniture. Cleverly, they’re making it a paradise for mini-mes, putting candy stripe rugs and crocheted pouffes throughout so that children can settle in and play with giant handmade felt toys while their beleaguered parents fill their baskets.

Clothing wise, there’s Stella McCartney, Paul Smith, Acne, Chloe, Little Marc Jacobs (adorable!!) and Isabel Marant, as well as London brand Miller, a line conceived by the team behind kids’ store Elias + Grace; Jessie & James, designed by two ex-Westwood talents, and Caramel – the eponymous line from the store of the same name.
Liberty print will abound, natch, with a Liberty Print Bugaboo (who else?) buggy, Liberty Print Doc Martens and – somebody lock away our wallets – a miniature version of the adult Barbour collection with Liberty print lining.

The question on our lips will no doubt be, ‘forget the kids, does this come in MY size?’
