Boat party for Pippa!! Middleton family joining Queen’s royal jubilee flotilla

It’s the ultimate sign of acceptance. The Queen has invited Kate’s family to join the Diamond Jubilee flotilla. Carole and Michael, Pippa and James will be on board a Mississippi-style paddle boat, refurbed with a disco and bar inside. Rock on! Charles’s trusty aide Michael Fawcett, who left amid a ‘selling gifts for cash’ scandal a while ago and came back to Bucky P as Chuck’s personal party organiser (you know this guy is good fun, right?) will be on board too. Bet Kate and Wills are royally peed off they’re on the dry old Spirit of Chartwell with the senior royals now!

Long live McQueen! Getting in the Jubilee spirit with Alexander McQueen’s Union flag clutch

Tear down the plastic bunting, hang up the novelty hats. We’ve found the only Jubilee accessory worth investing in this season – and it comes courtesy of another (Mc)Queen.

The studded Union flag clutch is a Royalist’s fantasty, and comes in ostentatious full red, white and blue, or oh-so-subtle silver.

We’d usually go for the stylish subtlety of the silver – but given that it’s Lizzie’s big day, let’s rock the red, white and blue for our Queenie.

Both are available for the absolute snip of a price, £1,249 for the red, white and blue, and £1,139 for the silver… OK, maybe we made the ‘snip’ bit up…

Do one’s curls look good in this? Candid snaps of Queenie from 2004 shoot show her adjusting her crown in the mirror

Love this photo of Queen Elizabeth behind the scenes at Chris Levine’s 2004 shoot for his holograph portrait.

He took 10,000 photographs over two days to create the resulting image, commissioned by the island of Jersey to commemorate 800 years in servitude of allegiance to the Crown. In between the shots Queenie can be seen in rare intimate moments: having her cloak put on by assistant Angela Kelly, eyes closed in a pensive moment, smiling warmly, or having the lighting set-up adjusted by Levine.

But most of all we like the one of her putting on her crown – the Diamond Diadem created for King George IV that she wore to her own Coronation – in front of the mirror.

Kate vs the Queen: It’s a royal fashion face-off!

Kate and the Queen took a trip to Leicester together today to carry out some royal shenanigans or other – and both pulled out all the sartorial stops.

One does love a hat, doesn't one?

One does love a hat, doesn't one?

Kate looked chic and uber-stylish in a blue LK Bennett dress with a belted peplum jacket over the top (Jude jacket, £395;  Davina dress, £225), while Queenie wore a fabulously fuchsia dress and coat designed by her endlessly talented seamstress, Angela Kelly.

Both topped off their looks with hot hot hot headgear: Kate, a neat black retro-style number by one of her favourite milliners, James Lock, and the Queen, a sensational black and fuchsia creation, again by Angela Kelly.

Who rocked their look best? We love the way Kate has made this high street dress look designer – and she is the home counties girl who outshone Hollywood’s finest. But her glowing granny-in-law might just have the edge… What do you think?

PS: Kate’s not the first power wife to have chosen the LK Bennett Davina for an engagement. Ed Milliband’s wife Justine wore a dark purple version for the Labour Party conference last September. Kate scoops this one for sure, thanks to her envy-making legs – and the fact she wore the matching jacket, turning bla into hurrah.
