It’s nearly here! H&M take to the streets of London to promote collaboration with Maison Martin Margiela

Posted on by M in Fashion News, Fashionfreude | Leave a comment

If you came across this motley crew on your travels around London today, don’t worry.

It’s not a mass asylum escape or even a chef’s convention – just H&M’s latest publicity stunt: a silent manifesto.

The High Street chain really want you to know about their new collaboration – sending a legion of fans to (literally) celebrate the launch of the Maison Martin Margiela collection, landing in store on November 15th.

They don’t mess around – or rely on social media either.

Check out the goods in selected stores on Thursday.

Happy holidays! David Beckham for H&M’s ‘festive’ campaign

Posted on by M in Fashionfreude, Festivefreude | Leave a comment

Ok, so they’re not exactly festive but when David Beckham posted pictures of himself modelling for H&M on his Facebook page this morning, he referred to them as ‘holiday campaign shots’.

That is his story and we are sticking to it.

What more do we need to share gratuitous images of DB without his top on?

Exactly…

Would you wear Maison Martin Margiela for H&M’s bra top? Mena Suvari did…

H&M is no stranger to collaborations but Maison Martin Margiela could possibly be the most fashiony (it’s a word) of them all.

The launch party in New York last night included the super stylish Sarah Jessica Parker, Selma Blair and Julianne Moore to name a few, all working the MMM for H&M look.

But Mena Suvari turned the most heads, wearing a rather outrageous nude and black bra-top.

No it’s not part of a stage costume that went walkabout from Madonna’s 1990 Blonde Ambition tour. It’s actually a piece from the new collection.

Would this work in the real world? Probably not. Will it attract lots of attention? Mais bien sur.

The rest of the range features oversized jumpers, blazers and dresses but with a difference – they are actually re-editons.

That’s right, all are original MMM designs that once featured in a previous collection.

Each H&M piece is labelled with a tag indicating the season from which it originates. That could be anything over the last 23 years – practically vintage darling.

The goods drop on November 15th but judging by collaborations gone by, you’ll have to be quick. And ready to queue. Or ready to part with your cash on eBay.

You can get your hands on the £29.99 top from November 15th, when the collection hits stores (clutch bag, £34.99. Jeans, £39.99)

Coat, £179.99. Wedges, £149.99. Leggings, £29.99

Oversized jumper, £79.99. Necklace, £34.99. Skirt, £59.99.

Dress, £99.99. Wedge boots, £199.99. Necklace, £34.99

Excitement alert! Anna Dello Russo for H&M

H&M just can’t sit still without announcing a collaboration.

The High Street chain is teaming up with icon and legendary Fashion Director Anna Dello Russo to create a collection of accessories.

Apparently: ‘Unabashedly glamorous, precious and playful, the range is an expression of Dello Russo’s taste for ornamentation.’

Available from 4th October (mark it down in your diary!), it features jewellery, sunglasses, shoes and bags, oh my!

Anna even filmed a short vid giving us her style tips. Frankly though, we think no amount of tips can help anyone recreate her mental fabulous look.

Anna said: ‘As a stylist I know accessorization is essential: it is the personal touch to any outfit.

‘With these pieces everybody can have fun, turning an ordinary day into a fantastic fashion day.’

We want it all, we want it now.

David Beckham’s H&M pants ad investigated by ASA (or what happens when a few selfish people try to spoil it for everyone else)

Only mildly sexual? The cheek of it!

Only mildly sexual? The cheek of it!

Beckham’s pants ads for H&M have been investigated by the Advertising Standards Authorities (ASA) after the governing body received a handful of complaints.

After careful scrutiny of the ads however, they were deemed ‘unlikely to cause offence’. Erm, no brainer – since when was a man in tightie-whities pornographic? Especially one as handsome as Becks (cough… *must remain neutral at all times*).

Lordy! Put em away, David!

Lordy! Put em away, David!

Despite the complainants saying the ads were overtly sexual and lewd, the ASA ruled there was no explicit nudity (fair enough, there wasn’t) and – this is the bit that kills us – he was ‘mildly sexual at best’.

Only mildly sexual AT BEST? Should we be offended on his behalf?

Anyway – the plus side is that David Beckham, and his mildly sexual pants, are here to stay.

Huzzah!

Actually, maybe this one IS overtly sexual. Look away now before your innocence is lost forever!

OMG! Michelle Williams wears H&M to the Baftas

Michelle Williams probably had designers falling over themselves to dress her for the Baftas.

And who did she opt for in the end? H&M! *Shock face*

The My Week with Marilyn star ditched couture in favour of some serious High Street action (a la K-Middy).

And Michelle didn’t stop there, the custom-made gown is part of their Conscious collection…Who says you can’t be green and chic?

The Olympia Le- Tan clutch and black and gold shoes freshen the monochrome look up.

We likey.

First look: Marni for H&M

H&M, I think I wanna Marni you…

We know we say this about all the H&M collaborations, but this REALLY is the most exciting.

The collection launches on the 8th of March and the campaign video is shot by Sofia Coppola…

Need we say more?

It’s here! Versace’s final collection for H&M. You like?

That’s it. The party’s over. Donatella has hung up her High Street hat (it felt cheap, anyway, darlinks) and has leapt out of bed with H&M. Before she went though, she designed one last swansong collection: Cruise 2012.

The bright and cheerful collection is full of tropical tones and juicy fruit prints, bold gold and classic Versace flashes. We’re loving the blue string bikini printed with more fruit than Carmen Miranda’s hat, the just-bling-enough-not-too-bling statement earrings and the fruity printed silks – especially the dressing gown. Want want want. Downside? Not convinced by the clingy pink dress.

Last month when Donatella’s first collection hit the stores, one disappointed shopper dubbed it a ‘chavalanche.’ So what do you think, fab and flashy, or super trashy?

H&M and the mystery of the matching mannequins

Posted on by D in Fashion News, Fashionfreude | Leave a comment

Poor old H&M. The Scandi store has found itself in the middle of a right old smorgasbord of scandal after eagle-eyed Swedish tabloid Aftonbladet spotted that the lingerie and swimwear models used on the H&M website were computer generated. Each identical CGI model struck the same pose (H&M’s first mistake), but their heads and skintone changed with each look.

Everyone is up in arms, of course, and H&M has been forced to apologise for what the Advertising Standards peeps have said amounts to the irresponsible promotion of an impossible body image. In their defence, H&M said it wasn’t about unrealistic ideals or to show off a perfect body, but was simply meant to show off the garments.

To be fair, the computer generated model looks no better than a real, airbrushed model would have – and probably worked out cheaper (worrying news for the modelling industry though, no?).

Our take on it? Having spent all their cash hiring Jerry Hall, Georgia May Jagger, Bryan Ferry and Karen Elson for the latest H&M Christmas ad campaign, there was nothing left in the pot to hire a real live model.

Either that, or one of the designers has been watching too much Weird Science.
