Ff is loving…

ANGELINA JOLIE in ATELIER VERSACE
Simple, elegant, statuesque in the word’s simplest sense. Ff wouldn’t usually go for a fitted white satin number, but something about the turned over neckline (making the dress reminiscent of a calla lily) and the red lips and alabaster skin make this a winner.

White Versace… tres jolie

MILA KUNIS in DIOR (naturellement)

Dramatic, and oh-so-simple, in this black chiffon gown Mila makes walking the red carpet look effortless. Which it just might be when you’re the new face of Dior and you have one of the world’s best couture houses at your disposal…

Still, she pulls this one-shouldered number off with nonchalant aplomb.

CLAIRE DANES in J.MENDEL

Pre-fall 2012 collection, custom-made from the original catwalk version which was shorter – this elegant column has a stunning jewelled back.

In pre-fall 2012 J.Mendel, Claire Danes is a definite contender for best dressed

EVAN RACHEL WOOD in GUCCI

Feathers + sequins + paillettes + peacock tones and oil-slick shine = Golden Globes fabulousness. This dress is everything an awards dress should be.

And the ones Ff is not loving…

CHARLIZE THERON in DIOR COUTURE*

Mulletty bridesmaid dress that manages to be fussy and dull at the same time. No mean feat…

*CT’s place at the top of the worst dressed list is in no way linked to CT’s rudeness to Ff at the Dior Couture fashion show last season. Honest.

NATALIE PORTMAN in LANVIN

Nats, Helen Mirren called, she wants her dress back… This kind of fabric better suits someone older than Natalie. The concept is so similar to the Atelier Versace dress Angelina Jolie wore – but this one misses the mark.

Tweets about Natalie’s dress go along the lines of… ‘Is that Angelina Jolie’s dress inside out?’; ‘did Natalie Portman forget to take the hanger out of her dress?’; ‘Is Natalie Portman carrying her baby in a sling under that dress?’; ‘Natalie Portman looks like she’s wearing a dress made during the curtain challenge in Rupal’s Drag Race.’ Nuff said.

Fine from the top up… elsewhere, too much silk, too asymmetric

Livia Firth: Wearing green Giorgio Armani for Golden Globes

Livia and Colin Firth on the red carpet at the Oscar's 2011

Green Livvy with her Mr Darcy

Oh, to have the world’s top designers to cater for your every whim… Each awards season, Livia Firth, film producer and very beautiful wife of Mr Darcy Colin, sets a challenge for top talent to come up with an eco-friendly dress for her to wear.

Last year, she chose a pink upcycled gown by Gary Harvey, which was made from 11 different gowns reclaimed from the era of the King’s Speech – and wore it to the Oscar’s ceremony where Colin picked up Best Actor gong for the same film. Neat, right? This year the likes of Tom Ford, Gucci, Paul Smith and Stella McCartney have signed up to design dresses either for Livia or for a different celeb – all will be revealed on the eve of the events.

We do know however, that Livia has chosen an eco-friendly Giorgio Armani frock to wear on the red carpet for the Golden Globes this Sunday. Will it be green? You’ll have to wait and see…

PS Come back to Fashionfreude.com on Monday to see which Golden Globes stars we give the best dressed awards to… and which ones get a big old razzie.
