Who lives in a house like this? World of Interiors sneaks a peek into the homes of top fashion designers

Donatella Versace’s phat pad

Their runway work is perfection but we secretly thought maybe some of the world’s top designers were living under a messy sea of safety pins and sketches, suffering for their art, with no time to pay attention to painting and decorating.

World of Interiors have quickly put a stop to that sad mental picture, peering through the keyhole of the fashion elite.

Think opulence, understated elegance and dream homes – so if you’re stuck for ideas on your new place, have an unlimited budget or just love a bit of interiors porn, go get the December Fashion issue now.

Christopher Bailey, Giorgio Armani, Nicolas Ghesquière, Vivienne Westwood, Donatella Versace (above), Marc Jacobs, Sarah Burton, Jean Paul Gaultier, Azzedine Alaïa and Hubert de Givenchy all opened up their doors to WOI, taking the images themselves and even wrote accompaniment texts.

Ikea, anyone? Sigh…

Giorgio’s gone Gaga: Armani to design singer’s upcoming tour outfits

Giorgio Armani is a man with his fingers in all the (carb-free) pies.

The designer recently collaborated with Rihanna on a caspule collection for Armani Jeans and is also responsible for the Olympic 2012 kit for the Italian team.

Now, as if he isn’t busy enough, he has announced he will be designing the outfits for Lady Gaga’s upcoming tour, Born this Way.

The pair have worked together before on her Monster tour so this doesn’t come as a complete shock but we sure are excited.

Judging by the keyboard headgear, it’s gonna be an electric show.

Mr Armani said: ’Collaborating with Lady Gaga is always an exciting experience for me. I admire the way she uses fashion as a scenic element and as a means to build a character.

‘She is an artist of many talents and great intelligence.  Creating stage costumes for her is a stimulating and creative exercise.’

Oscars 2012: Screen siren Penelope Cruz dazzles in Giorgio Armani

Penelope Cruz went all Mad Men on us at the Oscars in a stunning Giorgio Armani gown and Chopard jewels.

The blue shade kept the dress looking fresh but we can’t help but think it was a slightly too-old look for Penny – and would have been better suited for the likes of Helen Mirren or Meryl Streep.

However, the beautiful face and retro hair made it work.

Rihanna wears Armani to the Grammy Awards, proves blondes have more fun

On a wag any other person, this Armani backless dress could verge on tacky.

But Rihanna is just one of those girls, who can wear anything, anyhow and look a million dollars.

We don’t know if it’s the new blonde do or the fierce attitude but damn, she looks hot.

Say hello to my little friend: Rihanna took inspiration from Michelle Pfeiffer in Scarface

And the messy hair, minimal accessories – even the roots – keep it real.

Rihanna told E! she took inspiration from Hollywood: ‘It’s simple and sexy and Scarface-inspired.’

Gotta love Michelle Pfeiffer.

The black dress was a popular Grammy choice, others who opted for the lbd included Gwyneth, who kept it very demure in Stella McCartney.

Livia and Colin Firth on the red carpet at the Oscar's 2011

Green Livvy with her Mr Darcy

Oh, to have the world’s top designers to cater for your every whim… Each awards season, Livia Firth, film producer and very beautiful wife of Mr Darcy Colin, sets a challenge for top talent to come up with an eco-friendly dress for her to wear.

Last year, she chose a pink upcycled gown by Gary Harvey, which was made from 11 different gowns reclaimed from the era of the King’s Speech – and wore it to the Oscar’s ceremony where Colin picked up Best Actor gong for the same film. Neat, right? This year the likes of Tom Ford, Gucci, Paul Smith and Stella McCartney have signed up to design dresses either for Livia or for a different celeb – all will be revealed on the eve of the events.

We do know however, that Livia has chosen an eco-friendly Giorgio Armani frock to wear on the red carpet for the Golden Globes this Sunday. Will it be green? You’ll have to wait and see…

PS Come back to Fashionfreude.com on Monday to see which Golden Globes stars we give the best dressed awards to… and which ones get a big old razzie.
