Le Highland fling: Chanel hosts Metiers d’Art show in snowy Scotland

Posted on by M in Fashion News, Fashionfreude, Festivefreude | Leave a comment

No one can ever accuse Chanel of doing anything by halves.

For their latest venture, Karl & ko thought it would be a fabulous idea to hold the Metiers d’Art show (aka pre-fall) at a ruined castle in Scotland (where Gabriel Chanel spent much time in the 1920′s with her lover the Duke of Westminster, horse riding and trying on his tweed suits etc…)

Where Karl goes, the fashion elite enthusiastically follow.

350 industry insiders descended upon a snowing Linlithgow for the open-air spectacle featuring fire baskets, bagpipes, and a little boy named Hudson.

Karl’s three-year-old godson almost stole the show with his ‘blue steel’ runway pose – but as this is the third time he has walked for the iconic label, he’s practically a veteran anyway.

Guests were given a Chanel blanket and a tumbler of whiskey to warm up before being treated to around 60 looks celebrating the craftsmanship of the small ateliers owned by the brand.

Think Mary Queen of Scots-meets-Courtney Love 90′s grunge and you get the picture.

Could it be more perfect?

‘My breasts are so small, people really aren’t that interested’: Erm, we beg to differ Keira Knightley!!

Posted on by M in Fashionfreude | Leave a comment

She’s one of the most naturally beautiful actresses in Hollywood but it seems Keira Knightley isn’t fussed with her looks – but slightly obssessed with her breasts.

For the latest issue of Allure mag, Keira dished on her boobs, Photoshoping her boobs and well, more boobs.

She also is slightly deluded into thinking the public have no interest in her cleavage…how wrong you are, Keira – we are sure the sales of the December edition will attest to that.

She said: ‘I don’t mind exposing my tits because they’re so small—people really aren’t that interested!’

She then goes on to discuss her ‘digitally enhanced’ assets in the the Chanel campaign for Mademoiselle and the King Arthur poster.

;

She said: ‘You see those breasts (in the Chanel ad)? They’ve got quite a lot of shape at the bottom!

‘For King Arthur, for a poster, they gave me these strange droopy tits. A) I don’t have tits anyway, and B) they digitally made them, and I thought, Whoaaaaa! It’s my face on that poster.
‘I thought, Well, if you’re going to make me fantasy breasts, at least make perky breasts.’

We can’t say breast anymore, the word has lost all meaning.

Keira: ‘You see those breasts? They’ve got quite a lot of shape at the bottom!’

The Little Black Jacket: Bring a little Chanel into your life…

Posted on by M in Artfreude, Fashion News, Fashionfreude | Leave a comment

Ff spent a delightful day at the Saatchi gallery this weekend, where fashion, art and Chanel have come together to form ‘The Little Black Jacket’.

Evil Clever genius Karl Lagerfeld put together a fabulous exhibition of portraits starring Hollywood elite all wearing the classic iconic design.

We. So. Want. One. Now.

Kaiser Karl’s sartorial subjects were styled by former Vogue Paris editor Carine Roitfeld, who also featured in the show and looks eerily like the legendary Coco.

But our favourite  has to be actress Laetitia Casta (above). We are loving a veil at the moment.

Being Coco: Carine Roitfeld

Claudia Schiffer’s portrait reminds us of a Vermeer painting

You have until November 4th to catch the exhibition, where dapper men in black suits and Chanel brooches are giving away (yes, for free) lifesize posters.

You don’t get to chose who you take home… we got given a copy of model Georgia May Jagger.

But frankly, we wanted the mothership: Anna Wintour.

The solution?

Buy two copies of the ‘Little Black Jacket’ book from Amazon, one for your coffee table and one to hack into.

We don’t normally advocate the destruction of litterature here at Ff but for a bit of Chanel under £100, we are willing to make an exception.

Cut out the portraits you like, buy frames (ours are from Habitat) and there you have it: a Little Black Jacket exhibition in the comfort of your own home.

Here are some we made earlier…

And the bride wore…Chanel! Drew Barrymore weds in style

Congratulations to Drew Barrymore, who walked down the aisle in Chanel to marry Will Kopelman last weekend.

The pregnant actress, who we have decided would be our best friend if we knew her, chose a Karl Lagerfeld number (with matching jewels) and we salute her for it!

No need to let a bump get in the way of style.

No need at all.

Haute cat-ure: Karl Lagerfeld’s high tech kitten Choupette

Haute cat-ure: Karl Lagerfeld's high tech kitty

Haute cat-ure: Karl Lagerfeld's high tech kitty

Karl Lagerfeld has catnapped his friend’s Siamese kitten Choupette – and it’s now getting to live the high life. Kaiser Karl says little Choupette eats on, not at, the dining table alongside Karl – he refuses to eat off the floor. The pampered puss sleeps under its own pillow, and has the use of its own iPad.

But craziest of all is that the spoilt moggy has two maids available round the clock to tend to its every need. What does a cat need, exactly, beyond a bowl of Whiskas twice a day and a clean bowl of water once in a while?

But despite his indulgence, Karl draws the line at dressing the cat in Chanel. ‘Animals shouldn’t wear clothes. That is like putting them in the circus,’ he said.

Don’t know about that – I am quite partial to a sausage dog in a little sweater. But what is for certain is that Karl’s kitty kat has made me want my own petit Choupette.

Chanel + Alice Dellal = haute punk

Exquisite insouciance

Alice Dellal for Chanel: Exquisite insouciance

Continuing the week’s Chanel theme… We are loving the Alice Dellal campaign for Chanel’s Boy handbag range. Shot by Karl Lagerfeld himself in an opulent French chateau, the resulting look is an alluring blend of the exquisite and the artfully dishevelled.
Alice brings her unique brand of devil-may-care cool to the trad pearls and tweeds – and the combination is killer.

Must. Buy. It. All

The Chanel jacket saga continues….starring Sarah Jessica Parker

Start saving your pennies ladies, and pray they will turn into pounds…several thousand pounds..because you will desperately need them after watching Karl Lagerfeld’s advert for tribute to the Chanel jacket.

The behind-the-scenes footage is part of the hype building up for the new book by Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld coming out this Autumn entitled, The Little Black Jacket.

It starts off with Georgia May Jagger being all Bardot-like in a bra and black tweed number, then moves on to Kaiser Karl describing the garment as elegant, timeless, and crossing the boundaries from once being a masculine design to becoming the ultimate symbol of femininity. True dat.

Then Carine Roitfeld, ex-editrice of Vogue Paris, dresses up as Coco and compares the classic piece to a jeans jacket. We wish.

Finally, after Alice Dellal etc sing its praises some more, Sarah Jessica Parker (wearing a jacket on her head, naturally) finishes off the offensive by labelling hers a ‘prize possession’.

We want one. So bad.

Genesis of a Chanel jacket: An inspiring journey

This isn’t brand brand new, having been floating around the Internet for a couple of days now, but it’s still worth a watch if you haven’t yet. So inspiring… Entirely handmade; beautiful… and has entirely fuelled our already dangerous desire for anything bearing the alluring interlocking Cs. Now we must go dust off the sewing machine…

It’s all in the eyebrows, says Chanel at Paris Fashion Week

The Chanel show was the talk of the town at Paris Fashion Week.

But while the clothes were breathtaking and the production jaw-dropping, all eyes were on the brows.

Crystal-encrusted and fabulous, it won’t be long before the fashion set are rocking this trend.

Dare you partake?

Oscars 2012: Emma Stone swaps Giambattista Valli for Chanel, looks beter

Posted on by M in Fashion News, Fashionfreude | Leave a comment

Emma Stone is never one to put a sartorial foot wrong but she left us with lukewarm feelings on Sunday night.

There was nothing bad about the Giambattista Vallie gown per se (even though it looks very Gucci and Nicole Kidman wore a similar dress to the Oscars in 2007), but Ff thinks the Chanel gown she slipped into for the Vanity Fair party suited her more.

Agree?
