The apple never falls far from the tree: Romeo Beckham, 10, makes his modelling debut for Burberry

Posted on by M in Fashion News, Fashionfreude | Leave a comment

We always knew Romeo Beckham was destined for a career in modelling, we just didn’t think it would start so soon.

The sartorially inclined mini-me was hand-picked by Chief Creative Officer Christopher Bailey to be the face of Burberry’s SS13 campaign – not bad for a ten-year-old.

Vic & Dave’s offspring looks adorable  in a trench and suit – but the ad kind of leaves us wondering who the two hanger-ons on the right are… talk about stealing the show.

Mr Bailey said: ‘This season’s campaign lights up with the infectious energy of an amazing young cast of old and new Burberry family.

‘We had such fun shooting the campaign and I think that comes through in the images, which really reflect the upbeat spirit of the collection.’

We expect big things from Beckham junior…Watch this space.

Chicer than your average bear: Pudsey gets a charitable makeover

Posted on by M in Fashion News, Fashionfreude | Leave a comment

Introducing Pudsey, the world’s most stylish bear.

Thirty designers have jumped at the chance to dress the philanthropic character from Children in Need and all bears will go up for auction at Christie’s on November 15th.

In case your funds don’t stretch that far, you’ll be able to see them at Selfridges’ before they go under the hammer – and you can even purchase mini versions by Anya Hindmarch and Paul Smith.

But our favourite Pudseys are Burberry and Tom Ford – we may even have a style crush.

Samantha Cameron and Michelle Obama nail First Lady style

While their high powered husbands pow-wowed about world peace this evening, Samantha Cameron and Michelle Obama got together for a meet-up of their own. The two proved they’ve got stacks of sartorial nous as they attended a mini Olympics wearing vivid outfits full of the joys of spring.

Bold choices: The PM's wife in Roksanda Illincic top, Emilia Wickstead belt, Joseph trousers and LK Bennett shoes. Michelle Obama wears embroidered cardigan and wide-legged trousers

Samantha flew the flag for British design, ditched the black cropped Burberry trench coat she’d worn to disembark the plane earlier today to reveal a flash of colour had been lurking underneath in the form of a hot pink silk top by London-based designer Roksanda Illincic.

She wore the top (the same one she’d worn last month to host a Best of British fashion week party at Number 10) cinched in with a belt by another favourite brand of hers, Emilia Wickstead, her trusty black Joseph cigarette pants and navy suede L.K. Bennett shoes, another Brit brand enjoying a moment in the sun, thanks to the loyal patronage of Kate Middleton the Duchess of Cambridge and her sister Pippa Middleton.

Plane chic: Samantha stepped into the Maryland heat wearing a £595 Burberry trench coat, her favourite slim-cut Joseph trousers and a pair of navy suede L.K. Bennett shoes. David wore... erm, a blue suit (sorry Dave, it's all about the ladies!)

Michelle wore a chartreuse cardigan with white embroidery  (designer as yet unknown, but we’re working on it. Answers below please, or tweet us @fashionfreude).

With the Camerons on their state visit for three more days, we’re in store for a veritable feast of fashion. Check back tomorrow for our next instalment…

Raining on the parade: Burberry delivers a stellar show

It’s the hottest ticket in town and Ff had a prime time seat at Burberry Prorsum’s show today.

The energy in the glass tent at Hyde Park was palpable as the front row included all the big players, SamCam, Phil Green, Kate Bosworth, Rosie H-W, Will.I.Am, Mario Testino to name a few.

And of course, our favourite front row fixture, Anna Wintour. Smiling. Again!

The British label showcased the usual medley of beautiful coats and we want them all.

The best part? Just before the finale, it fake rained with water pouring down the windows.

Burberry is so powerful it can even control the weather – bow to the gods of check.

You can watch the show on Burberry’s website AND buy the clothes fresh off the runway.

We knew there was a reason we loved Christopher Bailey so much.

Keira Knightley wears Burberry to A Dangerous Method premiere

Keira Knightley wore a custom Burberry gown to the premiere of A Dangerous Method in London tonight.

The actress looked elegant in the maroon dress and we love the bow detailing, ruched sleeves and most of all, the backless, gathered panel that showed off her slender frame.

We think only Keira could pull of this look and still make it look fresh and young.

What do you think?

While so many other (frankly myopic) design houses operate an elitist closed-door, inner-circle-only policy (yes, we mean YOU, Tom Ford), Burberry is just getting more and more democratic – and it’s winning them untold kudos online. Today, the number of fans who’ve liked them on Facebook passed 10,163,100 – making Burberry the most popular luxury fashion brand on Facebook. They’re top of their game on Twitter too, where almost 700,000 people follow their UK feed, and many more their international feed.  Then there’s YouTube, where almost 10million peeps have viewed their exclusive vid content, like the three new snippety clips from the S/S campaign featuring Eddie Redmayne and Cara Delevingne films that were posted yesterday (and who by the way are both way more good looking than anyone needs to be).

Intense, man

Intense, man

Those elitist brands should take note: This inclusive approach is far from harming the brand (and we’re still in a recession, ‘member?). Burberry are still managing to retain their exclusivity while reaching their fans – and winning more. It’s genius – and partly down to Chief Creative Officer Christoper Bailey – legend and all round lovely man, by all accounts.

Burberry’s stars Eddie Redmayne and Cara Delevingne wax lyrical about him (and not only because they’re on the payroll, honest guv), saying he’s a ‘gem’.

Eddie: ‘I am a huge fan of Christopher Bailey. He is a brilliant designer and a brilliant man. The fashion world can be a tad intimidating but Christopher remains a kind, grounded gem of a man.’

Cara? She says CB is ‘one of the best designers’ around, as well as being the ‘kindest, most easy going, funny, talented and creative person I have ever had the pleasure to work with. I always leave work with a smile on my face. Burberry is the quintessential British label and also one of the most innovative and forward-thinking, I love it.’

WOW.  Join the queue guys, there are, like, 10million others out there who want a piece. of CB.

Saying that, CB sounds awesome… Ff wants to be friends with him too.

And check out the other vids starring Eddie and Cara here, here and here

Oh, and we REALLY want to know how to get her make up in these vids. We’re sure good old CB will tell us. Check back here next week for the secrets.

Bye for now,

Ff

The new Burberry Prorsum SS12 campaign stars Eddie Redmayne and Cara Delevingne.

Eddie Redmayne and Cara Delevingne get up close and personal for the Burberry Prorsum SS12 campaign.

The My Week with Marilyn actor is a star in the making and now has the Christopher Bailey seal of approval.

Next year Eddie will be filming a large scale film production of Les Miserables and Cara is set to star in Anna Karenina, currently in production.

Eddie on the campaign: ‘Christopher wanted something playful from the shoot and so Cara and I had a genius couple of days fooling around.

‘Hopefully the enjoyment we had is reflected in the campaign.’

It is, Eddie!

FF says watch this space, there’s much more of these two to come…

WTF moment: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley faced barrage of criticism over looks

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley on the cover of Harper's Bazaar's Body Issue... split ends?

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley on the cover of Harper's Bazaar's Body Issue… split ends?

Looking at Rosie Huntington-Whiteley on January’s Harper’s Bazaar it’s actually impossible to imagine finding even the tiniest flaw on her bod (though FF would love to get up close to check for split ends, at the very least). Apparently though, not everyone agrees. Poor RHW tells Bazaar that when she moved to the big bad US from her Devon hometown, she encountered a barrage of criticism.

‘All I kept hearing was, “honey, you gotta change this; your hair’s this; your legs are that; you’re not enough this; you’re not enough that; you’re too much this; why are you wearing that?”. It was a constant stream of judgement.’

Things are different in the UK though, RSW insists. ‘I have a different feeling when I come back to England; as soon as I touch down in Heathrow and drive into London and down to Devon, there’s a sense of home and belonging,’ she says. Phew. Given that Rosie’s not only the star of Bazaar’s Body issue but is also the face and figure of Burberry’s Body perfume, it is clear that us Brits are a bit more forgiving of such aesthetic imperfection… And that the sharp-tongued American critics need to clean their specs.
