Cara Delevingne rules at LFW – and highlights fact the super is no more

There was barely a catwalk that went untrodden by Cara Delevingne this London Fashion Week. Her rise from snub-nosed ingenue to model of the moment has been whirlwind. Last season she was big news. This season she was THE news.
Show reports went in on her opening, or closing. Newspapers and websites were replete with stories about her off-stage antics. As one Cara’d-out friend put it, ‘Cara goofs around! Cara eats burgers! Cara has friends! Cara breathes!’.

But for me, who thinks she does a good job of looking and being unique among the pale-faced, skinny Eastern Europeans everywhere else, it really highlights the lack of any other standout models.

In the nineties we had the supers, in the noughties we still had Kate. Now there’s really just Cara.

Jordan Dunn is beautiful, but doesn’t generate the buzz that Cara manages.

Karlie Kloss – so incredibly magnetic in stills – walked the Burberry show, but still didn’t bring it like Cara, with her cheeky smile and beetle brows.

So where are all the one-offs? Answers (with pics please!) on a postcard.

The apple never falls far from the tree: Romeo Beckham, 10, makes his modelling debut for Burberry

We always knew Romeo Beckham was destined for a career in modelling, we just didn’t think it would start so soon.

The sartorially inclined mini-me was hand-picked by Chief Creative Officer Christopher Bailey to be the face of Burberry’s SS13 campaign – not bad for a ten-year-old.

Vic & Dave’s offspring looks adorable  in a trench and suit – but the ad kind of leaves us wondering who the two hanger-ons on the right are… talk about stealing the show.

Mr Bailey said: ‘This season’s campaign lights up with the infectious energy of an amazing young cast of old and new Burberry family.

‘We had such fun shooting the campaign and I think that comes through in the images, which really reflect the upbeat spirit of the collection.’

We expect big things from Beckham junior…Watch this space.

;

There is only one shoe that guarantees a compliment every time we step out in them…

Not Louboutins, not Choos…. but Bionda Castanas – the go-to stems ensured to get you noticed.

Actually, BC’s are not so much heels as stand-alone works of art that can make you forget to match them to actual clothes.

Trust us, we do not lie.

If you have doubts, just check out the British label’s stunning new SS13 campaign, shot by Aaron Tilley.

The collection features woven raffia trims, hand-appliquéd silk flowers and scalloped edges in shades of coral, crisp apple green, cornflower blue, and sundrenched red, tempered by summer neutrals.

Shapes will satisfy your wardrobe’s every desire – from girly flat sandals and boyish flat buckle brogues, to mules, platforms, wedges and sexy summer ankle boots.

Oh we want them all, all, all.

The latest collection has been described as ‘like opening a box of perfect pastel macaroons or biting into a fresh fruit salad, capturing everything that’s delicious about summer.’

If only we could remember what that feels like!

Thankfully we have the shoes to cheer us up on the coldest day of the year.

Shoes always cheer us up.

Note to the Middletons! Alice Temperley opens new flagship Mayfair store

While many a label are making cutbacks or going under, Alice Temperley’s stock just keeps on rising (thank you, Duchess of Cambridge!)

The British designer has just opened a new flagship store on Bruton St in Mayfair, and we must say, it is rather purty.

The 2,500 sq ft of stylish retail space includes her signature label, the Alice by Temperley collection and collaborations with Barbour.

Upstairs is a bridalwear salon and office headquarters.

It’s worth checking out for the new line of printed silk pajamas and kimono-style dressing gowns alone.

Alice told WWD: ‘I wanted the store to have a gentle, welcoming feel. And I want the space to have a heritage feel, but also grow and evolve.’

Watch this space for more openings in New York and the Middle East.

Le Highland fling: Chanel hosts Metiers d’Art show in snowy Scotland

Posted on by M in Fashion News, Fashionfreude, Festivefreude | Leave a comment

No one can ever accuse Chanel of doing anything by halves.

For their latest venture, Karl & ko thought it would be a fabulous idea to hold the Metiers d’Art show (aka pre-fall) at a ruined castle in Scotland (where Gabriel Chanel spent much time in the 1920′s with her lover the Duke of Westminster, horse riding and trying on his tweed suits etc…)

Where Karl goes, the fashion elite enthusiastically follow.

350 industry insiders descended upon a snowing Linlithgow for the open-air spectacle featuring fire baskets, bagpipes, and a little boy named Hudson.

Karl’s three-year-old godson almost stole the show with his ‘blue steel’ runway pose – but as this is the third time he has walked for the iconic label, he’s practically a veteran anyway.

Guests were given a Chanel blanket and a tumbler of whiskey to warm up before being treated to around 60 looks celebrating the craftsmanship of the small ateliers owned by the brand.

Think Mary Queen of Scots-meets-Courtney Love 90′s grunge and you get the picture.

Could it be more perfect?

Kate Bosworth gets her sing on for Topshop’s Christmas campaign

Topshop has hired actress Kate Bosworth as the face of their new Christmas campaign.

In the video directed by her fiance Michael Polish, Kate re-enacts the famous piano scene from The Fabulous Baker Boys starring Michelle Pfeiffer.

While her voice isn’t likely to win any awards, we think she looks pretty darn hot and love the sultry rendition of Winter Wonderland, available to download on iTunes.

The sequin dress was designed by Kate in collaboration with the High Street chain and will be available to buy early next year.

Kate said: ‘This project brings together two important aspects of my life: cinema and fashion.

‘I have always been a fan of the Topshop brand and it has been an honour to work with Sir Phillip and the team. I hope everyone enjoys watching it as much as we did making it.’

The Miu Miu London: Italian label opens pop-up members club where you can eat, drink, dance and shop – for three nights only

Posted on by M in Fashion News, Fashionfreude | Leave a comment

We were one of the lucky, lucky few who got to hang out at The Miu Miu this week, possibly the coolest venue ever.

And even though the pop-up members club at Cafe Royal in Piccadily was only open for three nights, the fash pack certainly took advantage.

Kate Moss practically set up camp at the one-stop-shop – complete with restaurant, bar, nightclub and Miu Miu boutique.

She was spotted there day and night and miraculously still had time for various outfit changes.

Also in tow were Georgia Jagger, Katie Grand, Erin O’ Connor, Candice Lake – basically everyone who’s anyone.

The exclusive club also included a ‘conversation room’, where fashion talks were held and streamed live online – but people mostly hung out on the smoking terrace.

Guests were given a list of anti-rules including ‘Come as you are, ‘Try something you’ve never tried before, and ‘Photography and sharing is strictly encouraged.’

Ok then, if you insist…

The Miu Miu

We couldn’t resist delicious afternoon tea…lemon zest macarrons..mmmm

Fifty shades of pink and stilettos galore…ok, we’re sold

We never want to leave…

Neck candy…yes, please!

It’s a hat…made out of shoes!

Picture perfect: Olivia Palermo shares her tips on how to pose for the camera (…and she should know!)

Posted on by M in Fashion News, Fashionfreude, Street Style | Leave a comment

When we saw Olivia Palermo’s latest blog post entitled ‘Perfect Your Picture Pose’, we got super excited!

Ten tips on how to look like the queen of street style?! Oh GOODY!

And then we read them….

1. Start out in front of the mirror.  Try different angles, poses, etc. to find your best “side.”

2. Pose in different lights and spaces to discover what works best for your complexion.

3. Find your natural smile.  Don’t force it.  If you’re cheeks start to hurt, it’s too much.

4. Wear your most flattering colors – keep in mind that what looks best in person might not look best on film.

5. Backlighting is better than overhead lighting.  Overhead lighting causes excessive brightness as well as unflattering shadows.

6. Stance counts.  Stand at a 45 degree angle as opposed to facing the camera directly.  Put one foot slightly in front of your body but keep the weight on the back foot.  Try different “hand on hip” stances.

Anybody else exhausted yet? No wonder she always looks so good…

Frankly we can’t be bothered to read past tip no6…We prefer to just keep deleting pictures until we get the right one – isn’t that the point of a digital camera?

For those with more stamina, you can see the rest of the tips on Olivia’s blog here

Good luck!

My body, my self: Sienna Miller covers Harper’s, is in the ‘next stage’ of her life

Posted on by M in Fashion News, Fashionfreude | Leave a comment

Harper’s Bazaar’s new editor Justine Picardie has chosen Sienna Miller as the cover girl for her launch issue next month.

Themed around ‘the body’, the January edition features an in-depth interview with the actress.

Sienna has had a busy year, between her court battle with the press and having a baby girl, she is described by the mag as being in ‘the next stage’ of her life and reveals details of birth and life as a parent:

On being a mother: ‘It’s still the most surreal thing, that you can create, that I grew this life inside my stomach, her eyeballs, everything – every little fibre.

‘And I’d expected that she’d be this extension of me and I’d instantly understand who she was because she’d come from me, and then you realise that they are their own people entirely. Very connected to you, of course. But they’re their own person.’

On Childbirth: ‘It’s the best, the greatest thing in the world… I would do that day a million times again. I would do that day, every day. I loved it,’

On her body: ‘My body’s a completely different thing to me, it’s not mine – all the attachment to its flaws or any aesthetic attachment is gone. You understand what breasts are for; and I have such enormous respect for my body because of what it can do.’

On hiring a nanny: ‘It’s just been the three of us, which was amazing, and exhausting. We are going to get a nanny, but it felt important to first learn for myself who I was as a parent.’

Photographed by David Slijper and styled by Leith Clark across 11 pages, Sienna wears Stella McCartney, Louis Vuitton and Chloe for the shoot, channelling a Sixties vibe ‘that is feminine yet contemporary.’

We think she looks beautiful.

‘Turn your iPhone into a fashionable camera’: Will.i.am launches ‘turbo charge’ cover for super snaps

Posted on by M in Fashion News, Fashionfreude | Leave a comment

We always complain about taking poor quality pictures with our iPhones but lugging a mahussive camera around isn’t always practical. Just ask our clutch bags.

Of all people, Will.i.am (yes, from the Black Eyed Peas) has come to the rescue, launching a phone cover that doubles as a 14 megapixel camera, like a proper one with different lenses and everything.

It also comes with an app to ensure you can filter Instagram-style and share your snaps online.

Pretty darn cool.

Get a ‘contemporary’ black one for £199 or a ‘vintage’ white version for £299 that comes with a slide-out keyboard, perfect for all you touch-screen-a-phobes.

So far it is only available for the iPhone 4 and 4s but the 5 version is out next year, with extra stuff added on, of course.

Will told The Telegraph: ‘We have our own sensor and a better flash. You dock you phone into our device and it turns you smartphone into a genius-phone. We take over the camera.’

And with a whole host of technological ventures up his sleeve, it won’t be long before Will.i.am takes over the.world.

i.am + foto.sosho launches exclusively in Selfridges on December 6th.
