Olympic fashion wars: Loving China’s cool cans; loathing Team GB’s dorky archery hats

D here. I’ve been glued to the Olympics since the opening ceremony on Friday night, and have since discovered a new-found passion for sports I’d hitherto never devoted even a moment of my life to watching. Judo and weightlifting get special mentions for holding me transfixed, while swimming and eventing have proved fascinating too.  This is what the Olympics is all about – watching random and obscure events for hours, trying to pick up on the arcane rules with little …

More Mossy… Supermodel fronts Rag & Bone campaign

Posted on by D in Fashion News, Fashionfreude | Leave a comment

Kate Moss is the new face of Rag & Bone – and we reckon the signing makes perfect sense. It looks as though they’ve pillaged the clothes from Mossy’s own wardrobe. She’s got her impish ‘festival Kate’ face on – just like the old days. The pics and collection aren’t massively innovative, and don’t show Kate in the jawdropping, oh-my-god-she’s-amazing way we’ve seen in the past (the night of her Beautiful and Damned party, the night she wore that soon-to-be-ripped …

Kate Moss designs jockey silks for Glorious Goodwood

Posted on by D in Fashion News, Fashionfreude | Leave a comment

It’s not the first time Kate Moss has turned designer (thank you Topshop), but it’s the first time the superdupermodel has ever created something like this. Kate has created jockey silks for her model friend, Rosemary Ferguson, to wear in the Charity Ladies Day Race  - aka the second Magnolia Cup race at Glorious Goodwood on 2 August. Rosemary will be racing against fellow model Edie Campbell – who has had Vivienne Westwood design her silks. Without wanting to seem too …

Posted on by D in Fashion News, Fashionfreude | Leave a comment

Chanel’s creative director Karl Lagerfeld today unveiled his plans for an Olympic pop-up shop in one of Fashionfreude’s favourite places to be in London, Selfridges. The collection, Team Karl, will feature Olympic style apparel and accessories that the store says will capture the ‘energy and celebrations around the Olympic Games in the host city of London.’… pics to follow…

Tortilla time

I’ve been making tortillas since I first tried this salty, savoury snack in Spain at the age of 14 on a school exchange. Then, my host parents stuffed an entire tortilla in a piece of baguette an sent m off on a day trip. Now, I prefer to eat mine cut into cubes, speared on a cocktail stick just as they do in the tapacerias of sunny Spain, dotted with a jewel-sized droplet of chilli sauce. I’ve tried and tested …

Vodka jelly and elderflower cocktails: From trashy to classy in two sips

Posted on by D in Foodfreude | Leave a comment

Vodka jellies are an absolute science. Too much vodka and they won’t set (I am at very real risk of this happening each time). Too little, and they are sweet but pointless, like the Cheeky Girls, or gerbils. With some experimentation I’ve found the quantities that work. 2 packs fruit jelly (135g) Add 200mls boiling water Microwave for 1m30s Add 250mls vodka Make up to 950mls with cold water Pour into 50ml shot glasses Makes around 25 Hand out on …

Booze has been replaced by chocolate this week. Cafe-restaurant The Delaunay provided the goods, see for yourself.  Nuff said. PS Another visit is on the cards; hopefully we won’t get so distracted by the dessert table and will have other food too. Rekindling our love affair with Nobbly Bobbly

Posted on by F in Foodfreude | Leave a comment

Today we return to one of our first summer loves: the humble ice cream treat by Nestlé known as the Nobbly Bobbly. Chocolate and strawberry ice-cream, smothered in chocolate and hundreds and thousands, they keep the mind off the cocktails – and that’s no mean feat.

Now that is one sweet bride… Enter the McQueen-inspired gummy bear wedding dress made from 50,000 sweets

Posted on by D in Artfreude, Fashion News, Fashionfreude | Leave a comment

Some inventive stylists with an insanely sweet tooth (or perhaps not, or they wouldn’t have been left with the 50,000 sweets they needed) at new mag TWELV have created an incredible McQueen-inspired wedding dress entirely of gummy bears. They made it by sticking each individual rainbow gummy bear on to a piece of vinyl sheeting, and the end result was so damn heavy (220lbs to be exact) that it took three people to lift it at the shoot… We don’t …
