Cocktails and champagne at the world famous American Bar at the Savoy

Recently named World’s Best Hotel Bar at the Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards, we paid the American Bar a long overdue visit. After all, we hadn’t been back since it was refurbished few years back. Pleased to report the bar didn’t disappoint and continues to evoke its inspiring atmosphere of timeless elegance. We started our liquid dinner with White Lady and Cuprum Cocktail 29. After our cocktail starter we moved on to our main course of champagne. Several glasses …

Gucci gucci goo: So long, Chanel, Blake Lively is Gucci Premiere’s new babe

Posted on by D in Beautyfreude, Fashion News, Fashionfreude | Leave a comment

It isn’t exactly a rock and a hard place, but we don’t envy Blake Lively for having to choose between erstwhile employees Chanel and Gucci, whose payroll she is now on. Despite the bitter envy though, we have to say she looks awesome – loving the vintage waves and the incredible gold dress. Never mind the perfume she’s advertising (Gucci Premiere), we want the dress. The ad is to be followed up with a short flick shown at Cannes shot …

Food find: Hazelnut butter… Making Nutella redundant forever

Posted on by D in Foodfreude | Leave a comment

I am a peanut butter obsessive and thought I could never be swayed from the path of the salty, buttery legume for the sake of a worthier nut. But after eating a twice daily overdose of Sun Pat for a decade, I was stranded in California with only a Wholefoods to supply me with my fix. They do not sell salty, sweet, oily Sun Pat. They only sell wholesome, pure, nut butters. At first I missed my fix, and sent …

Food find: Fried onion bits at Ikea

Imagine thousands of tiny little onion bhajis, crispy little scraps of savoury umami that you can scatter over recipes – or just treat as a bar snack and shovel into your mouth to accompany a large glass of rioja. They cost just a pound or so but provide an instant hit of flavour – with zero effort. Perfekt, as they say in Sweden.

Back away from the crisps! Clean & Lean lunch recommended by Lee Mullins of Bodyism

Been hanging out with brilliant team Bodyism – as much for the food chat as the squats they force me to do. A visit always inspires me to back away from the crisps, put the cork back into the rioja and stop at the eighth square of Green & Blacks toasted hazelnut chocolate instead of wolfing down the whole thing (kidding James, I meditated instead, like you said, honest). One of the best things about the Bodyism’s Lee Mullins is …

When Clean & Lean goes rogue… Someone save me from myself! (and the Rioja and crisps) Sorry James!

Supersize us all! World’s largest fast-food restaurant opened next to Olympic stadium

There’s something so wrong about the world’s biggest McDonalds – in fact, the world’s biggest fast food restaurant – opening up right next to the Olympic stadium. As all those sports enthusiasts are on their way to watch finely honed athletes perform at peak performance they can stop off at the golden arches for a super-size nugget bucket or a Big Mac with large fries in preparation. Just check it out… A nugget factory.

Royal Ascot 2012: Hats off to the Queen!

Ascot came and went in a blur of hooves and hats… New friends were won, last month’s salary was lost. The hats were spectacular, with Philip Treacy, Steven Jones and the brilliant Jane Taylor dressing more heads than I could count… here’s the pick of the pics from the best fashion show race meet of the calendar.
