David Beckham + Romeo = Feelgood overload

Posted on by D in Fashion News, Fashionfreude | Leave a comment

At Ff we are constantly reeling from feelgood overload thanks to the Beckhams and their kids…. And no sooner had we recovered from last week’s pics of Beckham playing football in the park with his boys, then these new snaps came along. David Beckham. Romeo. Matching beanies. Front row at the Lakers game (we’re guessing that’s got the same sort of kudos as if Victoria Beckham took Harper to sit front row at Chanel). The two watched the game, while …

Anne Hathaway’s ‘starvation’ diet = the moment we’re glad we’re not A-list

Posted on by D in Fashion News, Fashionfreude, Filmfreude | Leave a comment

Word is that Anne Hathaway has been asked by producers of Les Miserables, in which she plays Fantine, a prostitute dying of tuberculosis, to drop 16lbs in under three weeks. According to Anne’s people, the actress needs to look ‘more frail’, and rumours are swirling of the obscenely low calorie diet she has allegedly been following: just 500 calories a day, gleaned, reports say, from two apples and a couple of protein shakes. A film source told the Daily Mirror: …

Guess the difference: Claudia Schiffer, 23 years later

Posted on by M in Fashion News, Fashionfreude | Leave a comment

Claudia Schiffer was just 17 when she starred in her first Guess campaign. The iconic 1989 image of the model wearing nothing but a black bustier cemented her status as the Brigitte Bardot of the 90′s – and put Guess on the map. Fast forward 23 years and Claudia, now 41, has barely aged a day. She looks unbelievable in the new campaign, celebrating the label’s 30th anniversary. Schiffer told WWD: ‘Guess will always have a soft spot in my …

Truth or Dare? Madonna unveils sneak peek of perfume ad, relives her In Bed With days

Posted on by M in Fashion News, Fashionfreude | Leave a comment

The 90′s are back. So it comes as no surprise Madonna would try and capitalise on her most controversial decade by unveiling a perfume with the same name as her iconic 1991 film, Truth or Dare, aka In Bed With Madonna. The soundtrack to the ad is a remix of Madonna’s ‘Girl Gone Wild’. We get it, you’re bad. The ad, shot by Mert & Marcus, will be played in full from April 3rd, but here’s a sneak peek. Alexa Chung directs AND stars in campaign for Superga…

Posted on by D in Fashion News, Fashionfreude | Leave a comment

She was the star of their centennial campaign last year. And this year, Alexa Chung is being celebrated by Superga once more. The 101-year-old Italian trainer brand enlisted Alexa to star in and creative direct their spring/summer 2012 campaign, giving her just one directive: Go create. So she took off to Miami with photographer Guy Aroche, a bunch of Superga sneaks (the 2750, a model of the vulcanised rubber shoes originally released in 1925) and a suitcase of her own …

Manolo Blahnik isn’t afraid to approach a woman in fakes… watch out!

Posted on by D in Fashion News, Fashionfreude | Leave a comment

Manolo Blahnik is one of those rare legends of whom people speak in hushed, reverent tones.  He is the godfather of shoes, immortalised in Sex and the City, but no less elite for it. In the last few days, he recently told Luke Leitch in the Telegraph, he made 350 pairs of shoes. Very Stakhanovite, Luke responded, smartly (isn’t Luke cleverer than a brain omelette?). He’s 70. Lord help us to be even a fraction as high achieving as MB …

Queen Victoria: Mrs Beckham covers Harper’s, has conquered the fashion world

Posted on by M in Fashion News, Fashionfreude | Leave a comment

Lying on a bed of flowers and wearing a Prada S/S12 swimsuit, Victoria Beckham has arrived…according to Harper’s Bazaar. The UK edition claim VB has ‘conquered the fashion world.’ Given the May issue is a Jubilee special, the royal accolade only serves to reinforce her fashion clout. Mission accomplished. But it’s not often a designer lands a cover… which goes to show Victoria will always be a celebrity first and a creative second… Somehow though, we doubt she minds… All …

Jean Paul Gaultier’s living dolls… creepy mannequins with virtual faces

Posted on by D in Artfreude, Beautyfreude, Fashionfreude | Leave a comment

A retrospective of Jean Paul Gaultier’s 40 year career in fashion design has just opened at San Francisco’s de Young Museum, and is already wowing the crowds – mainly thanks to a set of freaky deaky mannequins with creepy virtual faces. The living dolls, whose faces are beamed on from distant projectors, actually talk, and recite poetry. So far, so creepy. The first one is JPG himself, while the rest are female mannequins dolled up in his designs (including the …

My Daguerreotype Boyfriend: Ff’s vintage fetish extends to men

Posted on by D in Artfreude, Fashionfreude | Leave a comment

At Ff we love vintage clothes, vintage jewellery, vintage interiors… why not vintage men? Yes yes, you could point out that it’s for the simple reason that we don’t lust after hot gay men either: unattainable targets of lust = misplaced energy. But these retro hotties are another thing altogether. Collected together by the inspired tumblr page My Daguerreotype Boyfriend, this is a veritable feast of men from yesteryear or, as they put it, ‘where early photography meets extreme hotness’. Makes …
