Portrait of a Queen: Elizabeth II by Cecil Beaton

Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace in 1945

There are always a few things that strike us about Queen Elizabeth II.

Not only is she so dignified and composed but she always places her brooches in exactly the perfect position on her lapel.

It is almost an art form and for that alone, we salute her.

The mother of all matriarchs is currently the star of a photography exhibition at the V&A, celebrating her Diamond Jubilee.

The stunning portfolio of images were all taken by Cecil Beaton and capture a relationship that spanned three decades.

Oh to have been at her Coronation Day in 1953 – sixty years today. All that bling. Check out footage from the big day below (skip to 3:00 for the colour bit).

Queen Elizabeth II by Cecil Beaton runs from 8 February – 22 April 2012 at the Victoria & Albert museum
